Tectonics, geodynamics & geohazards
Our tectonics and geodynamics research programs cover a variety of scales; from plate scale to active mountain belts and the tectonics of continental interiors. We have developed a new 'school' of research focused on the tectonics of stable continental interiors that seeks to decipher the signatures of mantle flow beneath the lithosphere from subtle changes in continental topography.
We also study a broad range of links between active tectonics, landscape evolution and deep earth dynamics in plate boundary regions in Timor, India, China and Mexico, amongst others. Our research links geophysical parameters such as heat flow, stress and seismic moment release with structural geology to better delineate natural hazards presented by earthquakes and landslides.
