Economic geology
Research in the field of economic geology is shared by a number of researchers in the School of Earth Sciences. Given our strength in geochemistry, we are particularly interested in developing and using innovative new geochemical methods and technologies to improve our understanding of ore deposit systems.
Current research interests include:
- the origin of diamonds and the petrogenesis of diamond host rocks (kimberlites and lamproites);
- the source(s) of hydrothermal fluids linked to ore deposition;
- the formation of precious and base metal deposits;
- the timing of mineralisation events; and
- the geochemical signatures of hydrothermal haloes as vectors to mineralisation.
